A cloaking device will make the user invisible. If you are cloaked the energy production units on your ship will be shut down, so little things like life support will take there toll slowly on energy. It's possible to detect a cloaked ship if they're close, you have a button to do this. This will send a weak ray of energy all around you and if it hits a cloaked ship it will cling to they're hull for a few seconds, making them visible.
